YETI is a district wide activity for 4th and 5th graders, formerly known as The Sasquatch Super Bowl. School Librarians from across the Pacific Northwest nominate the best, recently published novels for middle grader readers for the Otter Award, Sasquatch Award and the Young Readers Choice Award. Bellingham librarians have chosen 12 books from these lists for the YETI Reading Competition. In an effort to motivate students to read these books, Bellingham School Librarians create games, puzzles and quizzes based on the nominated titles.

At Sunnyland, the emphasis is on increasing our knowledge of some really amazing books and enjoying discussions about our common literature experiences. The competition aspect is important for some students, but not the focus at Sunnyland. Participating in the school and district competitions is absolutely optional. However, once committed to a team, students are expected to follow through. For students who are interested in participating, please form teams of 3-4 students.

The YETI Reading Competitions will each consist of 3 rounds. The first two rounds will each have questions about the books, the answer to the question will be the name of a book. The top scoring teams from these rounds will advance to the finals. The final round will consist of quotes from the books. Teams will have to correctly identify which book the quote came from. In the event of a tie, the tying teams will continue into a sudden death round.

Family and Friends are welcome to attend all Yeti Super Bowl events!
